The following is a short excerpt from a historical text. “In 1864, the Civil War raged on, but one young soldier, Corporal Thomas Jones, dared to dream of a different life. He envisioned a world free from conflict and violence, where all people lived in harmony. This dream, he thought, would be possible if only the two sides could learn to understand each other’s values and beliefs. Jones knew that this would be a long and difficult journey, but he resolved to start with the people in his own community. He began by organizing meetings to discuss important issues that divided the two sides of the conflict, and he invited people from both sides to participate. Jones’s efforts were met with resistance, but he remained undeterred.”
